Meet Scaredy
Squirrel
This year’s book for St. Mary/St.
Monica has taken us on a new journey highlighting what it
means to step into the unknown only to discover the
potential which lies within each one of us. It is only when
we venture into new experiences, sometimes by circumstances,
sometimes with a gentle nudge and other times simply because
we are ready to risk. Scaredy Squirrel, a book of high
appeal to both students and staff, is simply packed with
wisdom we are exploring with our students – What are our
unknowns, what do we do when the unexpected happens, what do
we pack in our emergency kit, where are our safe places and
how do we encourage our students and each other to venture
out into new experiences? We have decided at St. Mary and
St. Monica that we are all
flying squirrels
ready to leave the nut tree. This won’t mean very much to
you unless you become familiar with this year’s book and
take the time to explore with your child the powerful
message this beautiful story holds for each one of us.

the shelf of every child, opening up to parents and children
the beautiful message of welcoming change and discovering
the beautiful gifts hidden away, waiting to be discovered …
